Thakzin’s story with Sondela has unfolded in chapters, from his remix of Jerk House Connection’s ‘Each & Everyday’, through the pivotal ‘The Magnificent Dance’ and later ‘Chemistry’ with MÖRDA, Brenden Praise and Mhaw Keys. Each release has revealed another side of an artist constantly expanding his language, making ‘Common Ground’ feel like a natural culmination of that shared journey.

Rooted in Thakzin’s South African and Mozambican heritage, but shaped by years of movement, travel and cultural exchange, ‘Common Ground’ explores the spaces where different sounds, people and identities can meet without losing what makes them distinct. At its centre is an idea that has increasingly defined his approach to 3-Step: connection without confinement. Amapiano, Deep House, Afro House, Afro Tech and African rhythmic traditions coexist freely, guided by intuition, curiosity and experimentation rather than fixed genre boundaries.

That philosophy is brought to life through an expansive cast of collaborators including Jinger Stone, Mpho.WAV, Atmos Blaq, Tete, Ozana, Kisto, Moonchild Sanelly, Baby S.O.N, Suffocate SA, Citizen Deep, Mzizi, Kususa, Blue Method and Leandra Vert. Focus track ‘Ake Tsabe’, created with Jinger Stone, leads a project where collaboration is less about features and more about genuine creative exchange.

For Thakzin, ‘Common Ground’ is both a reflection of how far his world has travelled and a statement of what has remained constant throughout: Africa as the foundation, curiosity as the compass, and music as the place where different worlds are free to meet.
